Answered Prayers
There’s a song that has been our anthem through this entire journey with Veya called Sparrows by Cory Asbury and I would love to take a moment to share some of the lyrics with you.
The sparrow's not worried 'bout
tomorrow
Or the troubles to come
The lily's not thinking 'bout the
seasons
The drought or the flood
A tree that's planted by the water
Isn't fazed by the fire
So why should I be?
'Cause You take good care of me
You take good care of me
You know what I need before I even
ask a thing
And You hold me in Your hands
With a kindness that never ends
I'm carried in Your love no matter
what the future brings
Yeah, You take good care of me
Every time
we listen to this song, it’s a beautiful reminder of His promises. There have
been many moments of worry and at times where we feel discouraged as Veya’s
parents…wanting so badly restoration and healing for her. Yet we are reminded that she first belongs to
God and regardless of her trials…her ongoing health struggles…He takes very
good care of her. Better than we could ever provide, and interestingly enough…today
as I was reading from Matthew 6, I came across this verse about the birds and
lilies in the field. The verse stood out to me and left me in awe of the
Father's love and care for us. It's amazing how God speaks to us in unexpected
ways to reassure us!
The
procedure to set Veya up on dialysis last week Thursday was blessed by our
Heavenly Father! It has been six days now since she’s been on it and the team
is very pleased with how her body has been responding to it! Her creatinine levels have come down from 313
to 90! Her urea levels have also been decreasing along with the extra fluid she
was retaining. Praise the Lord for answering
our prayers!
The plan
for this week is to continue with running her dialysis around the clock with
the goal of scaling back on the cycle runs sometime next week. This then can show them where her kidney
function is at and how long to continue with the dialysis. They have also taken away her two sedatives –
Fentanyl and Precedex and replaced it with one new sedative called Hydromorphone
which she has been responding better to.
She will remain under some sort of sedation until they are able to
extubate her and remove her dialysis. Yesterday
they also reintroduced her feeds again. (They removed her feeds around the time
that she was intubated…tried to start them up a few days later but had to stop
because of her kidney injury) They are starting off with 3ml and plan to
slowing increase it to try and get her back to where she was. We are incredibly thankful that Veya has been
enjoying a comfortable and stable week thus far!
We would
just like to say thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts! Words cannot express how much we have seen
and have been experiencing the love of God by so many. From your prayers, phone calls, words of
encouragement, delicious meals, babysitting, gift cards, visits (and the list
goes on!) This journey has not been easy, but we have seen the goodness of
Jesus by His people being His hands and feet. We are thankful to our Heavenly
Father who has given us a peace that passes understanding. He has given abounding joy, and He has given
us hope. Lord willing, we look forward
to the day we can share with Veya just how many people love her and prayed for
her life!
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31
Thank you so much for all of these detailed blog posts. We cannot even begin to imagine the road you have been traveling but, like you make so abundantly clear, the Lord knows all things, He controls all things, He loves and cares for His own and He will never leave you or forsake you. Your blog posts truly are a witness to each of us of God's goodness and grace. Please be assured of our continued and fervent prayers to the Lord for little Veya, for all of you as well as for the medical community caring for your precious little girl.
